Microsoft and Apple are reportedly working on new laptops, Surface Pro 5 and MacBook Pro 2016, respectively. Fresh reports claim that the tech giants could release the devices in October this year.

Apple fans were expecting the new MacBook Pro during the launch event that was held on September 8. However, Apple remained tight lipped about the new MacBook Pro. Reports claim that the tech giant will hold another special event to launch the MacBook Pro 2016 in the following months.

Surface Pro 5

Rumor has it that Microsoft is going to hold a launch event in October. The company could release the Surface Pro 5 during this event to counter attack Apple’s MacBook Pro 2016. However, neither Microsoft nor Apple has confirmed anything about the upcoming devices.

Microsoft is expected to include the latest generation of Intel’s Kaby Lake processor accompanied by a massive RAM that could reach up to 32GB. The new Surface Pro device will most probably have a USB Type-C and ThunderBolt 3 port as most laptop manufacturers have already introduced it in their latest laptops.

Moreover, the new processor will bring a 4K display support to Surface Pro 5. The Kaby Lake processor will also add a native USB support while the current motherboards use additional hardware for these ports. Thus, the new processor will also reduce the thickness of the device. It is also expected to be more power efficient than the current Skylake processor. It will increase the battery life of the device as well.

Furthermore, the device will have a new rechargeable Surface Pen that will attach magnetically. Although the current Surface Pen attaches magnetically, it uses AAAA non-rechargeable batteries.

MacBook Pro 2016

Although Apple is expected to retain the same processor coupled with a maximum of 16GB RAM, it will include notable changes. However, there are rumors about the Kaby Lake processor in the MacBook Pro 2016.

The most significant change expected in the new MacBook is the OLED touch bar with an integrated fingerprint reader. Earlier, it was rumored that the device will use an iPhone’s fingerprint reader to unlock.

Moreover, the new macOS Sierra will let the users unlock the device with the use of an Apple Watch. The new MacBook will recognise the user with the paired wearable. MacBook Pro 2016 will automatically unlock when a paired Apple Watch is in the required range.

The new MacBook Pro could support a 5K display with an integrated GPU. Furthermore, the company could ditch the 3.5mm earphone jack on the MacBook Pro to introduce lighting port. This is similar to what Apple has already introduced in the new iPhone 7.

However, nothing is confirmed until the tech giants officially announce the specs of the upcoming devices. TheBitBag team will update the information as soon as the companies reveal the details about upcoming Surface Pro 5 and MacBook Pro 2016.
