Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are officially the Bad Boys For Life. After 13 years since the last Bad Boys movie, the third sequel is finally in the works.
Sony greenlighted the third installment to the cop action-comedy series.
Suicide Squad’s Smith is juggling a busy schedule which pushed back the film’s release date. Lawrence’s, 51, hands are also full for his first stand-up special after 14 years where he will appear in Showtime.
Joe Carnahan will direct Bad Boys For Life. Only the duo can do the franchise and Carnahan is firm with that. Carnahan told Comicbook.com, “There is only one Will Smith and one Martin Lawrence. You cannot replace those guys and I would not want to be involved if it was not Will and Martin. They are that franchise.”
In the light of Smith and Lawrence bumping into each other after two years, they just knew they had to do another Bad Boys film.
They did a little throwback with the title, too. In the Bad Boys II, Mike, who is played by Smith, told partner Marcus, played by Lawrence, “We ride together, we die together. Bad boys for life.”
According to Entertainment Weekly, Sony Music has substantial connection with Bad Boy Records by Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs. Moreover, Combs has a single title Bad Boys For Life. He also appeared in Bad Boys II #1 Billboard soundtrack Shake Ya Tailfeather.
THE BAD BOYS
The film follows two hip Miami detectives – Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence). The two are forced to pretend to be each in order to investigate a case of stolen drugs. Continuing to the next film, the two narcotic cops probe into Florida’s drug traffic.
Will Smith and Martine Lawrence’s Bad Boys For Life will be out on June 2, 2017 – a shift from the first Feb. 17, 2017 release date. Meanwhile, Bad Boys 4 will be in theaters on July 3, 2019.
