Internet hoaxes are a dime a dozen nowadays, and it is not already surprising to see some famous names being accused “dead” when even the subject of the news is not aware that they have already been killed in some Facebook post. One celebrity who got such treatment recently is actor Ioan Gruffudd.
Ioan Gruffudd has been in numerous films, but the roles he is most famous for is being Mr. Fantastic in the 2005 film adaptation of Fantastic Four with Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis. This one had a sequel two years later, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, in which the mentioned actors reprised their roles together with Doug Jones as the voice of the titular Silver Surfer, and voiced by Laurence Fishburne.
As for Mr. Fantastic’s supposed demise, like most internet hoaxes, it started with a Facebook post. The page stated that Gruffudd passed away on Oct. 26, While it did not say what the cause was, the tone was formal enough to be believable, and the post gained traction. The post asked for condolences and sympathy, and in turn over a million people has either “liked” or “shared” the post.
While there were some fans that believed outright and grieved the actor’s supposed death, there are a lot that became as skeptical as well. Most of them doubted when they realized that the news was not even broadcasted in any Welsh network.
On Thursday, Oct. 27, the actor’s representatives have officially confirmed that the report was false. They advised fans not to believe in what they read on the internet, adding that the actor was only one in the long list of celebrities affected by hoaxes.
As for Ioan Gruffudd’s next appearance, there seems to be no news of him appearing as Mr.Fantastic in Fantastic Four again. The famous comic book team had another movie reboot last year, but it was panned by critics.
