Rey has become a very powerful character in the franchise since her introduction in The Force Awakens. Now, in Star Wars: Episode 8, spoilers hint at Rey’s possible parentage as well as leaked footage that gives a glimpse of the original Jedi temple.
Rey’s parentage remains to be one of the questions fans have. Spoilers for Star Wars: Episode 8 hint that perhaps Rey is related to both Luke and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Particularly, that she is possibly the daughter of Luke and the granddaughter of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
In The Force Awakens, Rey immediately has a grasp of the Jedi mind trick that Obi-Wan did back in A New Hope. Fans also pointed out that Rey’s style of fighting Kylo Ren in Starkiller Base resembles that of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s as well as her accent. Rey is also seen being able to have great aim using the Force as well as how she wields the lightsaber, raising the speculations.
As well, Obi-Wan’s voice could be heard in Rey’s vision when she touched the lightsaber in Maz Kanata’s castle. Darth Vader’s breathing could be heard in the beginning of the vision as well, specifically in the flashback where he and Luke fought in Empire Strikes Back.
As to how it all ties together, the theory starts back in Return of the Jedi. It is possible that Obi-Wan talked to Luke about how he had fallen in love with a woman years ago, that brought forth a daughter. Luke may have gone searching for Obi-Wan’s daughter and the two of them fell in love, resulting in Rey.
If this origin proves to be true, then Rey is the daughter of Luke, granddaughter of Obi-Wan and Anakin, niece of Leia and cousin of Kylo Ren.
Meanwhile, more spoilers for Star Wars: Episode 8 hints that Rey might undergo training to become a Jedi under Luke’s tutelage. Leaked footage from the set gives a sneak peek of the original Jedi temple.
The leaked footage also showed a little bit of what is inside the temple, such as the recreation of the stone huts that the Jedi used to live in. This is where Rey might possibly learn how to become a Jedi.
