After the success of The LEGO Movie, the spin-off The Batman LEGO Movie was born and it is going to be “the coolest Batman movie ever,” says Phil Lord, the film’s executive producer.
“Always be yourself. Unless you can be Batman.”
That is the mantra written on the newly-released one-sheet movie poster for the film which launched on Batman Day, a heads up from Inquirer.net.
The movie will explore on why the Dark Knight is always brooding when he has almost anything a man could ask for – looks, money, toys, and the action of crime fighting – says Lord and partner Chris Miller.
They were inspired to make a movie on what could make the brooding Bruce Wayne happy.
Lord tells Entertainment Weekly that they are interested to “examine why Bruce Wayne has to put on that mask every day and let’s see what is underneath that. These cartoons are such a sneaky way to try to tell a meaningful story.”
Directed by Chris McKay and script by Seth-Grahame Smith, the movie’s main conflict revolves around Batman who might try to “lighten up” a bit and work with others to rescue Gotham City from The Joker’s takeover.
Bruce Wayne will be brought to life by Will Arnett’s voice who is reprising the role from The Lego Movie. Zack Galifianakis will voice The Joker. The other voice actors are Rosario Dawson as Barbara Gordon, Michael Cera as Dick Grayson and Ralph Fiennes as Alfred. Mariah Carey is reported to voice the mayor of Gotham City.
To celebrate the movie, Lego Dimensions will receive an expansion through a new story pack which can further be expanded by the Knight Rider fun pack. The toys’ release will be timed with the movie’s. Batman is not alone in the story pack as Batgirl and Robin mini-figures will accompany him.
The Batman LEGO Movie will hit theatres on Feb. 10, 2017 after The LEGO Movie 2 which will come out on Feb. 9, 2017, just a day prior.
