The cast of The Flash movie is starting to come together and it is official: Billy Crudup is playing Barry Allen’s father.
According to Empire, Crudup was previously in talks to play Henry Allen before it was recently confirmed that he will now be joining the cast of The Flash movie. His portrayal will be largely different compared to Jon Wesley Shipp’s portrayal of Henry Allen in The Flash TV series.
In the comics, Henry Allen was blamed for the murder of his wife Nora, who was killed by Professor Zoom when Barry was a child. Henry’s connection to his son Barry is what makes his character interesting and his acquittal is one of Barry’s most important goals.
It is not the first time Billy Crudup is in a superhero movie and a DC movie at that. Crudup played Jon Osterman a.k.a Dr. Manhattan, a god-like superhuman in the 2009 movie Watchmen, directed by Zack Snyder, who previously directed Batman vs. Superman and is currently taking the helm for the upcoming Justice League movie, set for 2017 release.
Ezra Miller will be playing Barry Allen himself. He has previously made appearances in Batman vs. Superman and most recently, in Suicide Squad.
Another confirmed actor to join the cast of The Flash movie is Kiersey Clemons, who will be playing the speedster’s love interest Iris West. Ray Fisher’s Cyborg is also going to make an appearance.
Currently, the movie is still in its development stages with the script written by Seth Grahame-Smith and will be directed by Rick Famuyiwa. As told by Cinema Blend, production is expected to start at least before the end of the year and is set to premiere in 2018 so there is a big chance that more updates will be coming regarding who else is joining the cast.
The Flash movie premieres on March 16, 2018.
