Fast 8 has finished filming and Mia Toretto was left out. Does it mean goodbye for Jordana Brewster’s character?
Jordana Brewster has been in the Fast & Furious franchise since 2001. Her character sealed the deal of Brian O’Conner, played by Paul Walker, being a brother to Dom Toretto by Vin Diesel. When Paul Walker died in a tragic car accident, the characters bid farewell to Brian in Furious 7. It apparently meant saying goodbye to Mia, played by Brewster, as well.
When Brewster was asked if she had wrapped filming for Fast 8, she replied, “They are done. I am not in it, but we will see,” according to Cinema Blend.
What makes it odd is Paul Waker’s character might come back. Through his brother and CGI, that is.
Fast and Furious might just be one of the longest running movie franchise. So far, with seven movies and more to come. Cody and Caleb Walker had stood in for Paul’s character in Furious 7. They do not mind doing it again for future films.
Through an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the brothers shared that stepping up for their brother Paul helped them cope up with their loss. They discovered things about him that they never knew through the people he had worked with.
Caleb shared he had a phone call with Vin Diesel, the franchise creator and star, who asked for their blessing in bringing back Walker’s character. Cody added, “Universal wants to make sure to be respectful of Paul and his image too, and his family.”
Filming for Fast 8 has wrapped, but there are still two more films planned. According to Diesel, he is planning to make one last trilogy. That means Fast 8 will be the first for the trilogy with an addition of two more films. The scheduled release date for Fast 8 is on April 14, 2017. Furious 9 will be on April 19, 2019. And lastly, Furious 10 will end the chapter on April 2, 2021.
Fast 8‘s first trailer is rumored to be out later this year. The cast includes Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Scott Eastwood, Jason Statham, and Michelle Rodriguez. Directed by F. Gary Gray with script by Chris Morgan and Gary Scott Thompson.
