Saturday Night Live alum Bill Hader joins the cast of Power Rangers movie as Alpha 5.
Alpha 5 is Zordon’s robot assistant on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series. The official Twitter page of the Power Rangers movie recently announced Hader will voice the beloved character. Hader has a remarkable voice acting resume where he gave life to Fear of Inside Out, Firewater in Sausage Party and Leonard in The Angry Birds Movie.
Not only that, he was also part of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, has been a flesh-eating giant in The BGC by Steven Spielberg and one of BB-8’s voices in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as per Flick Sided.
The Power Rangers are played by Ludi Lin as Zack or Black Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly or Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini or Yellow Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy or Blue Ranger while Dacre Montgomery plays Jason or Red Ranger.
Elizabeth Banks is cast as Rita Repulsa and Bryan Cranston as the galastic sage Zordon.
To the disappointment of some fans, there will be no cameos from the original cast, like Walter Jones who plays Black Ranger, of the Power Rangers TV series.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed the movie will show the first footage at the New York Comic Con next month.
The movie is a reboot of the TV series about five teenagers who are battling aliens with their special armors in different colors in the city of Angel Grove. They also pilot a robot called Zords that transforms into Megazords when merged together. All these while also navigating through life in school and normal teenage problems.
Project Almanac director Dean Israelite will helm Power Rangers. The script is penned by Real Steel’s writer John Gatins, Dracula Untold‘s Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Chronicles’ Max Landi and X-Men: First Class and Thor writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz.
Power Rangers will open theatres on March 24, 2017.
