Sad news has fallen as showrunner for NCIS and creator/showrunner of NCIS: New Orleans Gary Glasberg passed away in his sleep. He was 50 years old.

According to Us Weekly, Glasberg was at his home in Los Angeles when he died and the cause of his death is unknown.

He has worked on many award-winning shows for the past seven years. Some of the shows he is credited in working on are Crossing Jordan, Shark, Bones and The Mentalist. Glasberg is survived by his wife and screenwriter Mimi Schmir, his two sons and his parents.

The cast and crew of both NCIS and NCIS: New Orleans have also expressed their condolences on social media over his sudden departure.

NCIS star Michael Weatherly, who played Tony DiNozzo on the series before leaving in 2015, tweeted, “What a sad day this is. Gary Glasberg was a gentle man and gentleman loved by so many people. Send your love to his family.”

Shalita Grant, who plays Sonja Percy on NCIS: New Orleans, also mourned her loss via twitter, saying “A sad day. You touched so many lives and careers. An awesome boss and a wonderful man. May you rest in peace Gary!”

CBS Television Studios President David Stapf also expressed his sympathies in a statement, saying that Glasberg “epitomized the word ‘mensch’ and brought kindness, integrity and class to everything he did…”

As told by Variety, Glasberg started out writing comics and working on animated series before venturing into drama in the early part of the 90’s. He was part of the staff behind shows such as Mercy Point, Swift Justice and L.A. Doctors. Glasberg joined NCIS in 2009, became its showrunner in 2011 and in 2015 created the spin-off NCIS: New Orleans.

It was with Glasberg that NCIS became one of the most-watched tv shows since 2009.

Glasberg’s family has requested for some privacy at this tragic time.
