‘Despicable Me 3’ 2017 Plot: Gru Experiences Sibling Rivalry, Faces New Villain

By on

Many were pleased to know that Despicable Me 3 is happening and is set for a 2017 release. The executive for Illumination Entertainment Chris Meledandri has given some details, such as Gru getting into some sibling rivalry as well as facing off against a new villain .

For starters one of the themes in Despicable Me 3 will be sibling rivalry. According to Cinema Blend, Meledandri revealed that this theme will be present not between the three foster kids that Gru had adopted but with the sudden appearance of his long lost twin named Dru. Gru and Dru look exactly alike, except Dru has a full head of blonde hair and wears white instead of grey and black.

Aside from his appearance, Dru’s role into the bigger scheme of things in the movie has not yet been revealed. But it seems highly likely that Gru and Dru will bond, possibly working together in stopping the sequel’s main antagonist.

Of course it would not be a Despicable Me movie without Gru having to face off against a fellow villain even though he is not one anymore. It was revealed on moviepilot.com that the main villain for Despicable Me 3 is a man named Balthazar Bratt.

Balthazar Bratt is described as a former child star in the 80’s who has trouble accepting that his show was cancelled once he approached his teen years. In an attempt to seek revenge for constantly being mocked, he decides to take over the world. South Park creator and director Trey Parker will provide the voice for Balthazar Bratt.

Steve Carrell is reprising his role as Gru and will also be voicing Dru in Despicable Me 3. Miranda Cosgrove is also going to reprise her role as Margo as will Kristen Wiig as Gru’s wife Lucy Wilde.

Despicable Me 3 is expected to premiere on June 20, 2017.
