Season 12 of Criminal Minds features a new addition to the BAU as Damon Gupton is cast as a new series regular.

As told by the network via Entertainment Weekly, Damon Gupton will be a face that the fans of the show will see more and more from here on out. Gupton’s debut as a series regular will come in the show’s eighth episode. Gupton was previously seen in the latest season of Bates Motel as the psychiatrist for Norman Bates. Gupton was also in shows such as Empire, Rake, The Player, The Divide and Prime Suspect.

According to the character description on Deadline, Damon Gupton will play Special Agent Stephen Walker, a veteran profiler who knows how to track down spies. Walker will be bringing his skill set to the table of the Behavioral Analysis Unit for Criminal Minds Season 12.

Walker is not going to directly replace Hotchner as the head of the BAU; however, as the new leader of the Behavioral Analysis Unit will later on be revealed.

Criminal Minds executive producer Erica Messer expressed excitement upon the announcement of Gupton joining the cast as a regular.

“Our BAU family is growing…We’re so excited to have Damon join the show and work alongside our amazing cast and crew,” Messer said.

This additon follows the sudden exit of original cast member Thomas Gibson who was involved in an altercation a few weeks ago. Shemar Moore also exited the show at the end of the previous season. Gibson’s Hotchner played an important role in the premiere of Season 12.

Other cast members who were promoted to series regulars are Paget Brewster and Aisha Tyler. Adam Rodriguez is also added to the cast.

Criminal Minds stars Joe Mantegna, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook and Kirsten Vangsness.
