After having directed the first two Hotel Transylvania movies, Genndy Tartakovsky is back at the helm to direct Hotel Transylvania 3 which is slated for a 2017-2018 premiere.
According to CartoonBrew, many expected that Tartakovsky would not be back to direct Hotel Transylvania 3 given that Sony Pictures Animation did not greenlight Tartakovsky’s project, which was a CGI reboot of Popeye. To add to that, Tartakovsky’s creative opinions often clashed with those of Adam Sandler, who is on the project as executive producer and the lead. But an announcement was soon made, confirming that Tartakovsky is back on board as director and dispelling those expectations.
As Hotel Transylvania and Hotel Transylvania 2 received immense success, it only makes sense to maintain that success by keeping Tartakovsky on the project. Upon confirmation that he would be coming back, Tartakovsky stated that he initially thought that he was finished with the world of Hotel Transylvania after having directed the first two movies. But as he was finishing Samurai Jack, an idea came to him and he expressed excitement upon returning to direct.
According to IGN, the film’s release is expected to be in 2018 and joining Tartakovsky and Sandler again on this project is Michelle Murdocca, who will be co-producing. Michael McCullers will be writing the screenplay and Selena Gomez and Andy Samberg will be reprising their roles as Mavis and Johnny.
Sony is also adapting the Hotel Transylvania franchise into a TV series in partnership with Nelvana Limited of Corus Entertainment. It will follow Dracula’s daughter Mavis’ teenage years and is expected to premiere on Disney Channel in 2017.
There is no doubt that fans will love seeing Dracula and the rest of the family as Hotel Transylvania opens its doors for guests when it premieres.
Hotel Transylvania 3 is expected to premiere on Sept. 21, 2018.
