As production for the Black Panther movie is about to start in January 2017, the updates keep on coming. It has recently been revealed that veteran actor Forest Whitaker is the newest addition to the Black Panther movie cast.
As told by Variety, Whitaker will be playing Zuri in the upcoming Black Panther solo movie scheduled for 2018. The Black Panther movie follows T’Challa after the murder of his father, as seen in Captain America: Civil War. T’Challa ascends to the throne and becomes the king of Wakanda.
While not much else is revealed about the character Zuri in the movie, more than being an elder statesman in T’Challa’s home of Wakanda, the comics describe Zuri as a loyal ally to T’Challa and his father T’Chaka. When T’Challa takes over the throne as king, Zuri remains to be his adviser and is also a very skilled warrior even at his age, according to CinemaBlend.
Whitaker is not the only new face joining the Black Panther movie cast. Daniel Kaluuya has also signed on, as well as Florence Kasumba. Kasumba is reprising her role as Ayo, a member of the Dora Millaje who was first seen in Captain America: Civil War as well. Kaluuya will be playing W’Kabi, one of T’Challa’s closest friends.
Newcomer Winston Duke is also confirmed to be joining the Black Panther movie cast. Duke will be playing M’Baku, a.k.a Man-Ape, the leader of a rival tribe.
Chadwick Boseman reprises his role in the movie as T’Challa a.k.a Black Panther, who was first introduced in Captain America: Civil War.
The Black Panther movie is slated to premiere on Feb. 16, 2018. It also stars Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’O. Director Ryan Coogler co-writes the script alongside Joe Robert Cole and Marvel head Kevin Feige is producing.
