The X-Men Universe is getting bigger as another addition to the cast of the upcoming tv series Legion is Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement.
According to CBR.com, producer Noah Hawley posted a photo of Clement on Instagram with the caption “expect the unexpected.” Hawley also made the announcement during the Legion panel at the New York Comic Con apart from showing some new footage of the show, the first half of the pilot episode.
It is also revealed that Clement will be appearing in several episodes of the show’s first season. Clement’s role has not yet been revealed but given his versatility in acting, he could be anyone from a protagonist to an antagonist. Clement may even be working behind the scenes as well, so anything is possible at this point.
As told by Deadline, Legion follows David Haller, a diagnosed schizophrenic who has been in and out of psychiatric institutions for many years. However, an encounter with a new fellow patient reveals that there is more to his diagnosis than he thinks. It is also revealed that the institution that David is in is actually a high school turned government setup where high ranking officials supposedly contain and keep a close watch on the inmates that are actually powerful mutants.
In the comics, Legion, a.k.a David Haller, is the son of Charles Xavier, a.k.a Professor X, and Gabrielle Haller. David is a powerful mutant who is also suffering from dissociative identity disorder, with his various personas controlling one of his many abilities and is seen as an antihero in the X-Men Universe. Dan Stevens will be taking on the role of the schizophrenic mutant in the show.
Legion airs on FX in early 2017. It also stars Aubrey Plaza, Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder and Katie Aselton.
