When the rumors of SpongeBob Squarepants getting cancelled suddenly came up in the internet, fans were no doubt shocked and worried. However, Nickelodeon has spoken up about the buzzing rumors.
It all started when an image of SpongeBob Squarepants was shared all over the internet with the caption that SpongeBob Squarepants will be officially cancelled on Oct. 17 this year. This led to a lot of violent reactions mostly from fans who grew up watching the show since it first aired in 1999. While some immediately expressed their sadness and disappointment, others were skeptic as the photo that was shared with the news had no source whatsoever.
The image turned into memes and as with a lot of celebrity photos on the internet, it spread like wildfire. As to why the show was getting cancelled? Rumors stated that it was because Season 9 was doing poorly in terms of ratings that the studio decided to shut down ideas for a 10th and 11th season.
Fortunately, Nickelodeon was quick to comment on the issue and said that the rumors of SpongeBob Squarepants getting cancelled are false, that it was all based on fake information. The representative from Nickelodeon also confirmed that SpongeBob Squarepants is renewed for two more seasons and that they are working on new episodes at the moment. It is safe to say that SpongeBob Squarepants will not be going off the air anytime soon.
It is not the first time rumors of SpongeBob Squarepants‘ cancellation spread around the internet. Back in 2013, speculations of a similar nature stated that the famous show set in Bikini Bottom will be going off the air in 2014. Nickelodeon responded that those gossips were false as well and have since aired a new season including another movie in 2015.
SpongeBob Squarepants Season 10 starts airing on Oct. 15.
