Scandal actress Kerry Washington recently gave birth to her second child. In the reel world, she also just saw the take-off of her second big project, HBO’s Confirmation. The twin accomplishments of motherhood and new projects call for a celebration.
During the recent Primetime Emmy Awards, Washington made heads turn for showing her baby bump clad in an elegant cutout gown. The actress bagged a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for Confirmation. The political thriller was also nominated for Outstanding Television Movie. Washington produced and tackled the role of Anita Hill in the thriller film that garnered good reviews from critics.
Striking while the iron is hot, Washington also just inked a deal in April for her production company to “develop broadcast, cable and digital projects exclusively for ABC Studios and ABC Signature.
Washington, of course, is best known for the spunky yet vulnerable crisis management expert, Olivia Pope, in the well-received ABC Network drama series Scandal. No one else could play the US President’s mistress who runs her own firm the way she does.
In real life, Washington has shown she can switch gears and take on one challenge after another with ease. The 39-year-old actress, after all, came from the school of hard knocks. She hurdled double majors – one in anthropology and the other in sociology. She revealed in a recent fashion magazine that she was only able to pay off her student loans when she was cast in Scandal.
As the whole world tuned in to Olivia Pope’s adventures and misadventures in Scandal, Washington skyrocketed to fame. With it came big brand endorsement offers and opportunities to appear on the cover of prestigious magazines.
Today, as she and her husband, NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha, welcomed their second baby this October, Kerry Washington is on top of the world. Another celebrity mom who just had her second baby is Blake Lively.
Washington had to hide her second pregnancy for a while when filming for Scandal‘s Season 6, but flaunted it soon enough. Motherhood becomes Kerry Washington. She says she is “really happy.”
Her fans expressed their excitement on the arrival of Washington’s baby boy by taking to Twitter. As an online follower tweeted, “how gorgeous is that.”
