Troy Duffy on ‘The Boondock Saints 3: Legion’: ‘Sorry it’s Taken That Long’

After much speculation, the third installment for The Boondock Saints is finally happening. Writer and director Troy Duffy announced the third movie’s official title: The Boondock Saints 3: Legion.

It was in a video via the official Boondock Saints Facebook page where Duffy answered some questions from fans of the movies that he opened up about the status of the project now known as The Boondocks 3: Legion. Duffy even hinted some plot details for the upcoming sequel.

Duffy stated that “it’s taken a while. Boondock 3 has taken a while…” He said that the reason for The Boondock Saints 3: Legion taking a while is that he wants to get it right and that he does not blame the fans for constantly asking whether or not The Boondock Saints 3 will be happening.

Duffy has been posting parts of the script for The Boondock Saints 3 on his Twitter, with some revisions as it reaches completion. However, there is one little setback in terms of who will be coming or coming back for Legion. Clifton Collins, Jr. expressed interest in coming back as he was introduced in the previous film, Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead fame did not share the same sentiment. Reedus preferred that Boondock Saints 3 be more dark and epic, and that it should focus on the two main characters from the original more than the new characters that were introduced.

Reedus also confirmed through a Reddit AMA that The Boondock Saints 3 will be happening. Although there is no official release date yet, more updates will follow soon. He also answered a fan’s question on if it was possible that his Boondock Saints co-star Sean Patrick Flannery appear on The Walking Dead. Reedus responded that Flannery would be great on the show and that “he’s a real life ninja.”
