Katie Holmes, 37, just made her directorial debut with the film All We Had. She shared that she gives her 10-year-old daughter Suri Cruise a special call-out in the film’s credits.
The American drama All We Had, based on the 2014 novel of Annie Weatherwax, revolves around a single mother (played by Holmes) with a teenage daughter whom she brings to a small Midwestern town, and how she struggles to survive financially. It was aired last summer at the Tribeca Film Festival and is slated for a December release in the U.S.
The story hits home as far as the divorced actress is concerned. Since she divorced actor Tom Cruise back in 2012, she has been striving to build a normal life for their daughter. She gushed at how awesome her daughter has been, inspiring her to take on new challenges, like directing.
Suri Cruise, she said, makes each day great, adding that she knows herself better because of her lookalike child. That is why her daughter always gets a special thanks with every job the Dawsons Creek star does. Katie Holmes felt gratified by her experience behind the cameras and the whole creative process, and is yearning for more.
Holmes credits Canadian filmmaker Sarah Polley with her decision to venture into directing. The Touched With Fire actress acknowledged that it took some time for her to finally fulfill her dream of being at the directorial helm of a film project.
In other news, Suri Cruise’s A-list celebrity father Tom Cruise has reportedly not seen her for quite some time now. The Jack Reacher: Never Go Back actor maintains that his daughter will always be a special part of his life, even if he has not been involved in hers in recent years. News did go around that Tom Cruise had planned a secret reconciliation with her 10-year-old child across the miles, something that Katie Holmes has not confirmed.
