Tim Miller’s Exit as ‘Deadpool 2’ Movie Director: ‘Honestly Bummed,’ Says James Gunn

Many people were shocked when the news of Tim Miller’s departure as the director of the Deadpool 2 movie happened. Among them was Guardians of the Galaxy 2 director James Gunn.

Upon the announcement of the Deadpool 2 movie being without a director, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 director James Gunn expressed his sadness over Twitter. Gunn said “Honestly bummed about Tim Miller leaving Deadpool. He did an amazing job with the first one; I’d like to have seen where he’d go next.”

Gunn’s tweet summed up the sadness of many fans who were shocked to know about Tim Miller’s exit due to creative differences with co-producer and star Ryan Reynolds. Miller previously served as director for the first Deadpool movie which became a surprise blockbuster success.

The Guardians of the Galaxy 2 director also responded to a fan’s angry tweet about Fox interfering with something that is already working very well to which James Gunn merely replied “well, it’s Reynolds, not Fox.” It is tough to say that Fox is blame-free in this one. The studio may not be directly related to the drama, they still had the final say and sided with Reynolds in this one.

Still, the drama lies mainly between Reynolds and Miller, but fortunately the separation was amicable. Fox still has him in mind to direct another project as well.

Among the things Reynolds and Miller disagreed on was the style and tone of the film. Miller wanted a more stylized version of the Deadpool 2 movie, however Reynolds preferred to stick to the raunchy comedy that made the movie successful. Another thing they disagreed on was the casting choice for Cable. Miller had Kyle Chandler in mind for the part, but Reynolds disagreed.

The Deadpool 2 movie does not have a specific release date yet, but Fox is already meeting with several other directors to see who can take the reins from Miller.
