The Force Awakens established a few new characters and their relationships with each other in the Star Wars universe. Among those new character relationships would be that of Kylo Ren and Rey, which will be explored further in Star Wars: Episode 8.
It was during an audio commentary of The Force Awakens on the movie’s special blu-ray version that JJ Abrams brought up the two characters. Abrams hinted that there is some sort of connection between the movie’s primary protagonist Rey and the antagonist Kylo Ren.
What connection is it exactly?
It would be very far off to say that they will have a romantic attachment to each other by the time Star Wars: Episode 8 and Episode 9 comes. Knowing that Rey’s origins have yet to be explained and a theory that suggests that she may be related to Kylo Ren.
Abrams explained that neither Kylo Ren and Rey have met before, but Kylo Ren has heard of her and they had to meet sooner or later.
It was when Rey and Kylo Ren meet for the very first time in the forest that establishes the relationship they will have.
He also pointed out that moving forward, a.k.a into Star Wars: Episode 8 and Episode 9, their relationship will be very interesting.
Exactly how interesting?
Perhaps Rey has never met Kylo Ren, but she has met Ben Solo at some point in her life before all this? Were they childhood friends that drifted apart? Could they actually be related? No one knows.
It is a given that Kylo Ren remains to be conflicted, staying in the dark side but getting pulled into the light. Maybe Rey would be the one to bring him back, to make him Ben Solo again?
Nothing has yet been confirmed, so it is all down to speculation for now at least until the premiere.
Star Wars: Episode 8 premieres on December 15, 2017.
