The latest episode of The Walking Dead Season 7 had been nothing short of sentimental and monumental for our central characters.
If you have not watched the episode yet, beware as there are spoilers ahead of things you might have missed in Episode 5 Go Getters.
The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 5 had been emotional, sentimental, and nostalgic. Abraham and Glenn’s death sent waves of various emotional struggles not only to the remaining survivors, but also the viewers. As each character has their way of grieving, here are the quiet, yet powerful, ways they honored Abraham and Glenn that you might have missed.
GLEGGIE’S HEARTBEAT IN THE WALKING DEAD
Everyone breathe a sigh of relief as soon as Gleggie’s, or Glenn and Maggie’s baby, heartbeat was heard. Due to the stress and trauma that Maggie suffered, it is not to anyone’s surprise how there are some complications in her pregnancy. But thankfully, the baby is fine.
What makes this scene heartbreaking is how, this time, Maggie is alone. Last season, she was with Glenn for their first ultrasound of the baby. And that just makes Maggie feel so much lonelier this time. But with Glenn’s child in her womb, she is bound to stand stronger.
SASHA AND ABRAHAM’S CIGAR
Sasha has suffered a number of losses in The Walking Dead and this time, Season 7 brought to her another loss of a partner. Even though she had to toughen up, especially for Maggie, it is not to say that Sasha is suffering any less. She, too, lost a partner whom she loved and cared for deeply.
In a scene where Sasha looked so tough in brandishing her knife, she tucked between her lips Abe’s signature cigar. It is worth noting that Michael Cudlitz, the actor behind Abe, also lit up the trademark cigar to pay homage to his character during the premiere of Talking Dead.
THE GREEN BALLOONS
Previously, Enid was seen protecting her balloons from a Savior bullying her. She was forced to say please just so she can keep them. The green balloons were what she and Glenn used to send a message to Maggie and the others that they are alive. And perhaps, the last thing Enid is holding on that connects her to Glenn.
The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 5 showed us the reason why she insists on keeping it. She heads to the Hilltop, not only to see Maggie, but also to mark Glenn’s grave with it. However, she put up the green balloons on Abraham’s grave instead yet Maggie “couldn’t bring herself” to tell her about the mistake in Go Getters.
JESUS’ WORDS ABOUT ABE
Jesus had a touching way of remembering Abraham. From his pocket, he takes out Abraham’s necklace and hands it to Sasha. The said necklace originally came from Rosita, who made it for Abraham. When it broke off during a fight, many thought it signified the end of his relationship with Rosita. Indeed, they broke up in that same season.
When Jesus gave the necklace to Sasha in The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 5, he had with him such emotional words in honor of remembering Abraham. Jesus says he is “one of the only people” he has ever met “who could say things that could make you smile and wince at the same time.” Without a doubt, one of the truest words anyone can say about Abraham.
HERSCHEL’S FAMILY HEIRLOOM: THE POCKET WATCH
The pocket watch that Herschel passed on to Glenn meant so much to him. And in TWD Episode 5 Go Getters, the pocket watch appeared multiple times. It signified Herschel’s acceptance to Glenn in the family and Glenn treasured it so much; he even made sure to retrieve it during the prison attack despite the dangers.
Now, Maggie gives it to Enid which symbolizes she is now part of her family too.
The Walking Dead Season 7 airs on AMC.
