With all the hype surrounding the Star Wars prequel Rogue One, many are wondering when the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode 8 will be released. It is possible that the first trailer for Episode 8 will come by the first quarter of 2017, plus an important character may be making their return.
In just a few weeks, the anticipated prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy Rogue One will be premiering. However, it does pose a question as to if the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode 8 will come out at the same time as the premiere.
Like many of the movies that have shared universes, one can assume that the trailer for the next movie is going to be part of the movie being premiered. But it might not be the case between Rogue One and Star Wars: Episode 8. There are rumors going around that the release of the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode 8 will be during the first quarter of 2017.
If this is true, then it might be a bit late compared to The Force Awakens, whose trailer was released almost two years prior to the premiere.
On the other side of things, Disney does not seem to be in a hurry in dropping the first trailer. It could be because releasing the first trailer for Episode 8 now might get people talking about that more than Rogue One. If the trailer comes out in the first quarter of 2017, then it might coincide with another Disney movie, the live-action Beauty and the Beast.
The Return of Obi-Wan Kenobi?
Meanwhile, one of the most important characters in the Star Wars universe might be reappearing in Star Wars: Episode 8. While there were many rumors going around about an Obi-Wan Kenobi-centric spin-off happening sometime, there might be a good reason why LucasFilm is not going towards that direction yet.
This is possible because Obi-Wan Kenobi might be reappearing in either Episode 8 or Episode 9 of the sequel trilogy. At the same time, Ewan McGregor expressed interest in reprising his role as well.
As fans may have already seen (or heard), McGregor recorded one line as Obi-Wan during the flashback scene in The Force Awakens. His line was joined with an edited recording of the late Alec Guinness. It has not been confirmed yet, but what is certain is that everyone can look forward to more references to Obi-Wan in the next two films.
Star Wars: Episode 8 premieres on December 15, 2017.
