The divorce proceeding of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard is in its final chapter. According to the latest reports, Heard’s lawyer Pierce O’Donnell stated that the two has not signed the final documents yet. However, it is ready for submission and they are almost done with the divorce issue, with domestic violence being one of the reasons cited for the end of the marriage.
The two started dating in 2011 and they were married in February 2015. The marriage did not last long because the 30-year-old actress filed for divorce in May 2016. The reports said that she decided to file a temporary restraining order against the Pirate of the Carribean actor as well. The reason behind their divorce is due to alleged domestic violence. Heard claimed that her ex-husband has been abusive towards her, both physically and verbally throughout their relationship.
The ex-couple finalized the divorce in August of this year. Amber Heard will be receiving a settlement of $7 million and Johnny Depp is expected to provide it in the next twelve months. In addition to this, the actress promised to donate the whole divorce settlement amount to charitable institutions, including the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
Johnny Depp Used Charitable Contributions to Evade Taxes?
Recently, the American actor was reported to have already donated $200,000 directly to his ex-wife’s chosen charities, but one member of Amber’s legal team claimed that Johnny Depp gave that money as an excuse to get a cut from his taxes. The Pirates of the Carribean actor has not made a statement about this allegation.
Amber Heard Advocating Against Domestic Violence and Women’s Rights
Just last week, Heard filmed a two-minute video in collaboration with “Girl Gaze,” a website that imposes gender equality and women’s rights. The video was filmed to encourage women to speak up against domestic violence and that women should not face the battle alone.
The actress mentioned that their voice is the most powerful thing that they have and that they will not be silenced anymore. Amber Heard also emotionally added and encouraged her viewers that violence against women is not limited to actual physical violence, but also about how women deal with it and talk about it in public, specifically the media.
