Kate Middleton quite opted for a sentimental attire for the recent annual event at the Buckingham Palace. The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William gave a subtle acknowledgment to Princess Diana as Kate wore one of the late princess’ favorite tiaras.
The royal family dressed to the nines for the annual diplomatic reception where they welcomed the world’s Ambassadors and High Commissioners from United Kingdom’s diplomatic community. Along with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, were all present.
Their attire was all complete of tiaras, blue sashes, and knee socks.
As for the Duchess of Cambridge, she looked regal as she wore a red floor-length gown by Jenny Packham and the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara, which the Duchess was seen wearing just for the fifth time since being part of the family. The gown is also a rewear as the Duchess of Cambridge wore it during her first official banquet in the China State Dinner.
Kate Middleton Wears Princess Diana’s Favorite Tiara
The tiara, already over a century old, was created by jewelers Garrard in 1914 for Queen Mary. It was made from the royal family’s own possession of pearls and diamonds. Its design strongly features French influence with 19 open work diamond arches that encloses an oriental pear drop. But actually, the headdress is a replica of a 200-year-old Gothic Revival tiara.
The original crown was owned by Queen Mary’s grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse who was the Duchess of Cambridge, thus the tiara got the name of Cambridge Lover’s Knot. This one was reportedly sold in an auction where it is said to be in an unknown private collection.
Meanwhile, the tiara in the royal family’s possession was the wedding gift of Queen Elizabeth to Princess Diana in 1981, known to be the Princess of Wales’ favorite. Now it is Kate Middleton who wears the “pearl and diamond piece” which beautifully matches Kate’s sapphire engagement ring given by Prince William which also belonged to the late People’s Princess.
