The year 2017 for the music industry is destined to be anything but bland. Whether you strongly prefer the EDM vibe, or thirsting for something new from your favorite pop singing superstars or rhythm & blues crooners, awesome tracks that hint at big albums for upcoming release comprise the sounds of 2017.
Leading the pack after taking a hiatus from the glitzy entertainment scene are English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and Swedish musician Tim Bergling, more popularly known as Avicii. There are other popular singers who will reportedly drop new albums sometime this year, among them Taylor Swift, Iggy Azalea, Major Lazer, and Jason Derulo, named among Forbes’ “30 Under 30” standout individuals.
Some of these talented artists have held back on a full album release the past few months, with reasons ranging from going through a personal crisis to the addition of finishing touches on fresh material. Nonetheless, news about their new projects is enough to get fans all hyped up.
Fresh Tracks That Created a Stir
Ed Sheeran is one of the artists who welcomed 2017 with a musical bang. Before the first week of January was over, he had released his new singles, Castle on the Hill and Shape of You, much to the delight of fans and colleagues.
Close friend Taylor Swift, who has worked on new material herself, wrote on her Instagram page, “Oh my God. Okay it’s happening. Everybody stay calm.” The UK pop singing star announced that his third album will be titled ÷ (or Divide), a nod to his practice of naming albums after mathematical operations.
In terms of tunes with pop, R&B and hip-hop influences, the music of American singer-songwriter Jason Derulo continues to entrance many people. After the resounding success of Everything Is Four and Platinum Hits, Jason confirmed that his new album will drop in 2017.
Major Shake-Ups from EDM Artists
For the electronic dance music category, Major Lazer featuring the trio of Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire is expected to drop Music Is The Weapon. Major Lazer is still riding high on the crest of its successful collaboration with Justin Bieber. The chart-smashing Cold Water will be part of the new album.
Swedish DJ, remixer and record producer Avicii, on the other hand, took to Instagram to announce with his New Year’s Day greeting that he will “make the best damn album” of his career.
