The latest iPhone 8 leak reveals an “essential” feature upgrade that will showcase a higher water and dust resistance rating. Other features like fast charging, forged steel chassis and more are also buzzing in the rumor mill.
Because of iPhone’s popularity, containing secrets from its massive global supply chain has been hard to achieve. As we get closer to the expected release of the 2017 iPhones, rumors of its new and upgraded features have proliferated uncontrollably, which gives expecting buyers a tease of what Apple has to offer next.
What To Expect in iPhone 8
A leak from Korean Herald, according to Forbes, reveal iPhones that will be released this year will have an upgraded IP68 rating. That means the 2017 iPhones can be submerged in water up to 1.5 meters in 30 minutes and a higher rating for resistance against dust, dirt, and sand without extra cover protection.
Another iPhone 8 leak says three iPhone models will be launched in the second half of 2017, and they will be bigger than ever. The 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models will have a TFT-LCD panel. Meanwhile, there will be a 5.8-inch iPhone with AMOLED with global shipments already estimated for 60-70 million units.
It is also worth noting that the new iPhone is rumored to have an all curve and “edgeless” display. Samsung will allegedly be the exclusive manufacturer of Samsung Display’s OLED for Apple.
Meanwhile, a leak also states iPhone 8 will have a new forged steel chassis which will be used to sandwich the front and rear glass panels together. While this was used in the iPhone 4 and 4S, the new iPhone will use metal forging as compared to the former’s billet milling. This method will give a metal grade toughness for the upcoming iPhone.
The iPhone 8 leak shows Apple is catching up in features, like fast charging and Tap To Wake, that they have disregarded in their three generations of similar looking models. However, whether the tech giant will sweep users away with the new iPhone or leave them unimpressed will only be revealed in time.
