Kate Middleton and Prince William will walk the red carpet and attend the awards ceremony of the 2017 British Academy Film Awards slated on Feb. 12. The event will unfold at the Royal Albert Hall in London, where William will also present a lifetime achievement award.
Kensington recently tweeted the news that Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend the event. BAFTA itself had debunked an earlier tabloid report that the Duchess of Cambridge’s presence at the film awards event would “detract from the presence of the stars.”
Through the years, BAFTA has celebrated excellence through its annual awards ceremonies whilst providing opportunities for the public to find information and inspiration through its program of events. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are glad to be a part of that thrust and will show up after a two-year hiatus.
Gracing Events-For-A-Cause & Premieres
Prince William and Kate Middleton, as well as Prince Harry and other British royals, have been interacting with A-list celebrities through the years. Apart from film premieres and awards events, they have been busy supporting numerous causes and charities in London.
Incidentally, BAFTA has partnered with Place2Be in support of children’s mental health initiative. Kate just so happens to be the Royal Patron of the UK children’s mental health charity that offers counseling services and strives to address issues ranging from bullying, family breakdown, anger or anxiety.
Last year, the royal couple had fun joining the cast of Star Wars: The Last Jedi on the movie set in London. Three years ago, Kate had the chance to meet award-winning English actress Helen Mirren during a reception held at Buckingham Palace in honor of the Dramatic Arts.
Royal Couple & Hollywood A-Listers
Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, has had countless other opportunities to mingle with A-list Hollywood personalities (apart from Prince Harry’s current girlfriend Meghan Markle) as part of her royal functions. During the 2015 BAFTAs, celebrities were spotted queuing up to talk to Kate and William.
William is currently president of the film awards board. The Fellowship that he will be presenting during the awards ceremony represents the highest accolade given by the Academy.
Among the nominated actors are Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone for La La Land; Amy Adams for Arrival; Natalie Portman for Jackie; Michelle Williams for Manchester by the Sea, among many others. Since January, BAFTA has been excitedly tweeting the highlights of the upcoming awards occasion, and expressed delight about the appearance of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at this year’s celebratory event.
