Lady Gaga had promised a tremendously athletic show for the Super Bowl halftime, and she delivered. Taylor Swift also gave a spectacular performance to a select audience at the annual pre-Super Bowl party.
Lady Gaga wanted to create a moment that everyone watching would never forget. Certainly, the audience would not easily forget having to look at the roof of the Super Bowl stadium – from where Gaga sang God Bless America.
With the Falcons outplaying the Patriots in the first half, fans were ready for an eye-opener during halftime. Flying drones, four outfit changes and an elaborate stage made up the pop singer’s set.
Lady Gaga belted out Born This Way, Bad Romance, and Telephone, and Million Reasons (part of her new album, Joanne) while she played the piano. Prior to the halftime show, the blonde bombshell expressed hopes that her performance would celebrate inclusion and the spirit of equality during a time of national division.
She did make a statement along those lines without being overly political. Conspicuously missing from the show, however, was Tony Bennett, who was scheduled to put in an appearance.
Taylor Swift Wanted to Play Some Music First
In contrast to her fellow singer’s show, Taylor Swift’s pre-Super Bowl performance was an invite-only affair that DirecTV Now sponsored. John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, as well as Lea Michele were among those spotted at the shindig.
The Super Saturday Night event showcased some of Swift’s new songs, most notably I Don’t Wanna Live Forever from the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack. Her co-singer, Zayn Malik, did not grace the affair.
Wearing a black Versace dress with sequins and tassels, the You Belong With Me singer said to the audience, “You are the people who come from all over the world, possibly to see some football. But would it be all right if we play some music first?” She played her legions of fans’ favorites like Blank Space, Red, We are Never Ever Getting Back Together, and Love Story as the crowd sang along.
Taylor also sang Better Man live for the first time. The intention of the all-out pre-Super Bowl performance may well be to keep fans happy before a lengthy absence.
Her First and Last for 2017
Tay Tay, as she is fondly called by some members of the press, stated that she would not be touring this year. The reason is to focus on her eagerly awaited next album, which fans have been waiting for since last year.
