Marvel Studios released new behind-the-scenes photos showing Chris Hemsworth in the lead role of Thor: Ragnarok, igniting much interest. The movie also features the Hulk and the screen debuts of other familiar characters from the Marvel Comics Universe.

Hemsworth reprises the role of the Norse god as he races against time to prevent the destruction of his homeworld, Asgard. The plot unfolds with the god of thunder investigating the powerful Infinity Stones. Along the way, he finds himself imprisoned on the other side of the universe – without his mighty hammer Mjolnir.

A Rogue’s Gallery of Villains

In one of the recently released photos from Marvel, Hemsworth is seen clad in his costume as Thor. The set is dark, and Thor is looking upwards with a somewhat troubled expression.

Another photo is more ominous: a pair of familiar horns can be seen – the trademark of a popular villain in the comics. It is the fire demon Surtur of Muspelheim, based on the giant Surtr from Norse mythology.

Surtur had graced Marvel Studios’ panel at the San Diego Comic Book Convention last year. What was likely an early test footage showed Hulk jumping from a certain height, about to do engage in battle. As the green behemoth lands on the ground, fire is seen all around him, a face appears, and a scream is heard. It is the voice of Surtur.

The beleaguered Thor also gets into battle with the Hulk, but his main quarry is the Asgardian goddess of death, Hela (played by Cate Blanchett). Other villains reportedly causing trouble for the hammer-wielding protagonist are Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) and Skurge (Karl Urban).

Film Unlike Its Predecessors

Director Taika Waititi had stated that he made an effort to ignore the previous Thor films to make the upcoming film stand on its own. The other cast members, whom Waititi described as “amazing” to work with, include Anthony Hopkins, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston and Tessa Thompson.

Thor: Ragnarok is produced by Kevin Feige, with executive-producer credits shared by Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Thomas M. Hammel and Stan Lee. The battles begin on November 3, 2017.

Cate Blanchett Praises Chris Hemsworth

Even before photos were released, the biggest news concerning the latest Thor movie is that Cate Blanchett portrays Hela. The Ocean’s Eight star joked in an interview that stars are cast as villains as they grow old.

The Blue Jasmine actress had positive things to say about Chris Hemsworth. She described Chris as “absolutely fabulous” and the experience as “fantastic fun.”

Echoing the sentiments of Director Waikiki, Blanchett evoked how the movie was just fantastic and fun to do. The lead actor, she said is a big guy who has a really playful side that is able to come out.
