Twenty years is a long time and people eventually change as they age; that is true for Claire, too. Caitriona Balfe spills the beans on how her character might be a whole new woman when Outlander Season 3 returns this September.

The third season is based on the third book, Voyager, from the Outlander series written by best-selling author Diana Gabaldon. A two-decade jump would happen as the story picks up where it left off, with our time-travelling stricken lovers separated by even more time apart.

Claire is a Changed Woman

Time can change a person, and Caitriona Balfe, the actress playing Claire, shares how her character has changed not just physically, but emotionally as well. Caitriona tells Bustle they are “looking at a woman that’s 20 years older” in Outlander Season 3 and she wanted to explore “how that makes her different.”

Claire has always been a strong-willed and stubborn woman. If not because of these attitude, she would not have survived the challenges thrown her way. However, it is worth remembering how Claire is now a mother, and that brings a lot of maturity to her character especially when she has to step up and build a new life for her daughter.

The 37-year-old actress reveals the “harsher edges of their personality,” for people in general, gets smoothened out a bit at some point. Therefore, Claire may no longer be as “stubborn” and “quick-tempered” as she was before now that she has learned to control those urges a little bit.

Pivotal Print Shop Scene

Meanwhile, after the long years of Jamie and Claire’s separation, they will be reunited again in the print shop scene. Caitriona shares fans of the books need not worry as Matt B. Roberts has “written it very beautifully.”

The actress effectively thrilled fans by saying how it was full of “excitement,” “tentativeness, “nerves” and everything. She, and the rest of the film’s production team, knows how the weight of the pivotal scene and has posed a challenge among themselves to “better get it right.”

The two will be brought back together after Claire returns to the stones after believing Jamie had died in the Battle of Culloden. From the 20th century and the life she has rebuilt for their daughter Brianna, Claire and Jamie will see each other again after decades in the print shop where he works at.

Starz has announced that Outlander Season 3 will return in September which is the latest premiere the romantic fantasy series have gone. The reason behind it, meanwhile, is enough to make fans patiently want just to get an epic page-to-screen translation for their beloved series.
